42,000 Square Feet, Zero Stress

At Mike’s Custom Flooring

We like to think of ourselves as more than just flooring installers. We're problem solvers, risk managers, and, in some cases, miracle workers! When we recently tackled a 42,000-square-foot project in a fully occupied building—you could say we had our hands full. But, spoiler alert: we nailed it!

Challenge #1: The Moisture Mayhem

Imagine this: 9,000 square feet of hallways, break areas, and meeting rooms... all dealing with moisture issues that could turn your shiny new floor into a squishy nightmare. Sounds fun, right?

Here’s how we tackled it:

  • Dust Control Shenanigans: First things first, we set up containment walls and covered everything that needed covering—fire sprinklers, HVAC intakes, you name it. Dust? Not on our watch.

  • Grinding Like Pros: We gave the concrete a good workout, grinding it to a CSP-2 rating. No dust clouds either, thanks to our trusty HEPA vacuums.

  • Moisture Barrier Masterpiece: Timing was everything when we applied Patcraft’s MRP moisture system. We made sure to keep things dry and smooth—like buttering toast, but with way more precision.

  • Subfloor Leveling Adventure: Ever tried to balance on an uneven floor? Not on our watch. Using ASTM’s F2873-20 standards, we leveled the playing field (literally) to give the LVT the perfect base.

Challenge #2: The 200 Office Tango

Now, imagine 300 employees, all working in offices and conference rooms that need new flooring. Oh, and no remote work options, so the show had to go on—smoothly. Challenge accepted!

  • Daily Pow-Wows: Every day started with safety and coordination meetings. No, we didn’t bring donuts, but we did bring plans to keep everything moving safely and on time.

  • Phased Like a Pro: Zero downtime was the goal, so we worked in phases, like a well-orchestrated dance, making sure the office stayed open for business while we worked our magic.

  • Real-Time Flexibility: Peak office hours? No problem. We made on-the-fly adjustments to work around busy schedules and keep the project on track without causing any chaos.

  • Clean-Up Crew: At the end of each day, we left the place cleaner than we found it. No dust, no debris, no mess—just like the cleaning fairy, but better.

What’s the Takeaway?

So, what’s the moral of the story? At MCF, we believe flooring doesn’t have to be stressful—even in a fully occupied building with 42,000 square feet of space to cover. It’s all about planning, communication, and—dare we say—having a little fun along the way. And while we love a good challenge, we’re just as excited about creating a worry-free experience for you.

As we like to say around here: "Hakuna Matata"—no worries, we’ve got the floors (and everything else) covered!
