Breaking New Ground: Our First-Ever Summer Interns!

This summer, we hit a milestone at Mike’s Custom Flooring— we launched our very first summer internship program!

Over eight weeks, we had the privilege of working with Matthew (21) and Annelise (20), both Business majors at the University of Redlands. Neither had been exposed to an office setting before, yet they jumped right in during our busiest season and made a lasting impact. Their openness, responsibility, and ability to quickly master new tasks stood out, and their presence across departments helped us get more organized and even get ahead of the game.

Making an Impact

Matthew and Annelise spent most of their time in our finance and admin departments, where they supported day-to-day tasks like job costing, CPR, union dues, and gathering contact information. Matthew focused more on billings, while Annelise took a deeper dive into labor compliance. Their contributions lightened the workload during the hectic summer months, allowing our team to stay on top of priorities and work proactively. Beyond the tasks themselves, they connected with the team on a personal level—valuing people for who they are, not just their job titles—which made them a joy to have around. Their feedback also encouraged us to digitize more processes for efficiency moving forward.

Bright Futures Ahead

Looking ahead, Matthew is returning to UoR this fall while also preparing for the upcoming football season. His career goals include going into project management and one day opening his own HVAC business. Annelise, meanwhile, is headed abroad to Nice, France, for a semester of study before returning to UoR in January. She has her sights set on law school, with ambitions of becoming a lawyer focused on litigation and immigration.

We’re grateful for everything Matthew and Annelise accomplished during their time here. They set the bar high for our internship program, and we wish them all the best as they continue their journeys!
